The lectures and materials in this course are based on iOS 5. They remain available for reference and archival purposes. For the latest course taught on iOS 7 please check out Developing iOS 7 Apps for iPhone and iPad.
Dealing with groups of values is a fundamental aspect of programming and is achieved through the use of collection types. In this course we’re going to take a look at Swift’s two primary collection types – arrays and dictionaries. In addition, we will also look at how we can change the path of execution of our code by using several control flow statements.
My first programming language was Apple Basic, progressing up through C/C++ and many C based web languages since then. I appreciate that the base programming concepts have stayed true, even with moving to visual editors. I think I’m going to enjoy this transition into mobile development.
We share a lot of features with the laidback city of Australia. Our app design reflects the same easy going character of Perth while our after launch services will ensure that yours becomes the app that is in sync with all the big city attractions that Perth offers. Finally, like the city’ arts scene and great food that gives it a unique personality, we make all our apps unique and differentiated as well.
The removal of the NDA led to the launch of Apple’s iPhone University program, giving instructors and students all the software needed to code for the iPhone for free. This program made Stanford’s iPhone development course possible, and other universities have plans to offer iPhone classes as well.
For the documentation on their development software and special licensing for some of their software (called MSDN for “Microsoft Developer Network”) it’s between $1,000 – $10,000.  You can get ‘bundles’ which have the development and subscriptions together and you can see sone if those options and pricing here  http://www.nextag.com/msdn-subscription/stores-html
While it isn’t possible to directly write code that runs on the iPad, you certainly can write code on the device itself. There is an app available in the app store called CodeToGo that lets you author programs in quite a few different languages. When you want to run your program, the code is actually uploaded to a server, executed there, and the results of that run are returned to you. This, or a similar program, is the closest you will currently get to writing code on the iPad (or iPhone).
Craig Hockenberry penned an influential StackOverflow answer in 2010 on how much it would cost to build Twitterrific. The answer was $250,000 on both the iPhone and iPad. Admittedly that was the opportunity cost since Twitterrific is built by Iconfactory in-house. While that was on two form factors, includes heavy API consumption, and an involved interface, as he noted, it did not include a server element.

At the very least, having a recent update to your app will help show that the app is current and that it is being actively supported. (The date of the most recent update is shown on each app’s Google Play store page.)
Blue Whale also avoids another common mistake made by other developers: more is more. Commonly, developers see the increased screen size of the iPad as a chance to cram more content, more pictures, and more functionality into a single space. What comes out is a jumbled and chaotic app that may do a lot, but fails to deliver on the clean, focused goals of your initiative. Blue Whale takes the time and scare to avoid adding elements just to fill space, channeling the same design cues that make for a beautiful modern website to bring the screen to life. As a result, our apps outshine the competition in every way.
Free apps that have a paid component to provide access to an additional feature or set of features are referred to as “freemium.” There are various ways to approach a freemium app. You can offer a free version of your app with reduced features such as with Calcbot (e.g., a user can purchase the “convert” feature) or even let users try a certain feature initially and then lock it down behind an in-app purchase like with Apple Music. The latter approach requires much more development work but is a workaround for there being no true trials in the app stores.

Do your research. Examine apps in the app stores, including competitors, to identify best practices for monetizing similar apps. While it’s difficult to surmise exactly how much money your competitors are pulling in, you can identify the types of monetization strategies they use and how they frame their app content for ad impressions or optional transactions. Familiarize yourself with your competitors’ techniques and then ask yourself whether they’re missing a major opportunity. You should note elements of competitor apps you can improve on to enhance your monetization strategy or flat out make a better app.
