Review : Nick is a great instructor and you can tell he put a lot of time into this course! And he’s funny and entertaining to boot! Overall, I really enjoyed this course so far and managed to make good progress because it was both fun and entertaining. I, too, would also love to hear what resources you used to teach yourself Objective-C with no previous programming experience. I’m aware of the Paul Hegarty podcast…was there anything else that you found particularly helpful?
This couple’s idea (like mine) was to release a new app each month. What they found is diminishing returns and basically had to work twice as hard to make half as much on each successive app. BTW: the $200,000 figure includes their 401K and house equity.
But submission can be a bit more difficult if you don’t have OS X. You can’t upload an app from a Windows PC to iTunes Connect because you need a program called Application Uploader…which is only available on Macs. The easiest way to get around this problem is to borrow a friend’s Mac or use a service like MacinCloud.
The work doesn’t finish once you’ve made it onto App Store. As it’s unlikely you’ll have your own in-house QA department, some bugs and design issues may only surface when hundreds of gamers get their hands on the code. Consequently, it may be necessary to submit several alterations.

In your first ten minutes using an iPad, you’ll have used most, if not all, of the iPad only user interface elements and because they’re done by Apple, you probably didn’t think much about using them, they just seemed natural. While as users, we don’t really want to be too conscious about them. As developers, we need to make sure we know what these new elements are called in each circumstance, so we can use the right one. Now the most significant new user interface idea that’s only for the iPad, is the split view. Typically used when you have, nested data or some kind of master detail relationship. If you’re in the settings application, on the iPhone, you’re used to going left an right through multiple screens. But here on the iPad it’s all on the same screen. You select from the list on the left. And the area on the right, the detail page changes to handle your selection, but itself handles a navigation controller so you can drill down to multiple screens. You’ll see this in…

On multitasking phones like the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, you can make it so your application doesn’t quit when the user presses the Home button. Instead, the app just goes into the background and reappears just as it was with a tap on its icon. You can give your app multitasking powers without writing a single line of code!
Similarly to C# and in contrast to most other OO languages, Swift offers built-in support for objects using either pass-by-reference or pass-by-value semantics, the former using the class declaration and the latter using struct. Structs in Swift have almost all the same features as classes: methods, implementing protocols, and using the extension mechanisms. For this reason, Apple terms all data generically as instances, versus objects or values. Structs do not support inheritance, however.
